The Molecule has produced Visual Effects for the Emmy award-winning television drama Rescue Me for several seasons, as well as Motion Graphics services to a host of Conde Nast and Hearst mastheads including Glamour, Vogue, GQ, Esquire, and more. We have created promos for The History Channel, historical recreations for PBS documentaries, and we produce a weekly webisode series for both Takkle.com and SI.com.

Middle March Films for American Experience and PBS . The New York downtown shot was composited with elements gathered from colonial locations such as New England and Amsterdam to keep the scene historically accurate. Re-enactors were filmed against a green screen studio set, then positioned in 3d space with CG buildings. The principle plate photography was shot on a moving crane in Alexandria VA.

Rescue Me Series. Denis Leary is not actually 35 stories over 3rd Avenue, but merely 15 feet above a blue screen. A spherical matte painting is used to create the surrounding buildings and their reflections. It is constructed from still photos taken on a rooftop in midtown Manhattan.

Rescue Me kicks off with a killer techno crane shot, 3D debris, and a healthy dose of composited fire. The floor is actually tilting however the actors are sliding toward a chroma-key green trampoline rather than a fiery abyss of burning cats.

Reel Moments series has debuted the directorial careers of Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Hudson, and more. Glamour Magazine wanted to bring the logo to life so we painted a treadmill green and styled their special projects manager to look like the woman in the logo. Add some 3D and a little rotoscoping and this is what you get!

POSITIONS
Motion Graphics Animator
A Motion Graphics Animator will be skilled at animating and compositing in After Effects or other graphics packages, as well as have a good sense of typographic design and color. Candidate will be able to make things cool as well as modular, and will have an accomplished reel that demonstrates these skills.
Senior Shake Compositor
Senior Shake Compositor will have at least 5 years experience with Shake and similar software packages. Candidate will be familiar with compositing as it relates to a team-based work flow, and will be fluent in 3D concepts as they apply to compositing.
Senior 3D Artist
A Senior 3D Artist will have at least 5 years experience using Maya and Mental Ray. MEL Scripting is a major plus. Applicant will be familiar with compositing work flow, photo-realistic shaders, multi-pass rendering, and image-based modeling techniques.
Web Application Designer
Applicant will be familiar with PHP, AS3, and Javascript, and will have a minimum of 3 years of experience. Ability to work quickly under pressure to produce stable, extensible software is a requirement. Ideal candidate will be familiar with, or at least have an interest in, application scripting as it relates to visual effects production.
System Administrator
Applicant will be familiar with Linux, OSX, and networking concepts as they relate to NAS and SAN hardware installations. Will be able to compile and install upgrades to system components (like apache, PHP, NIS, etc) as well as debug NFS speeds and subnet configurations. The ideal candidate will also have interests in programming, scripting, animation, or design.
